Melanoma Surgery
Well kids, it’s time for Monkey to go under the knife. I’m having the melanoma on my face removed tomorrow morning at 9:45am at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.
The surgery should take about an hour to hour and a half and then they will stick me in a room for several hours for observation to make sure everything is fine. Once we get the go ahead my wife will drive me back to Orlando. The trip should go fast for me because I’ll be hept up on goofballs
.
I found a site googling “melanoma reconstruction” that displays what will probably be done to me. The pictures are graphic, but if your interested you can see what I can expect to have my face look like (scar wise) over the next 5 to 6 months. Not fun
. I’m thinking that I might get a eye patch and pirate hat and say “argh!” all the time, but I’ll have to see.
The one thing I have in my favor regarding scarring is that I’m so pasty white and lack any consistent pigment in my skin that I have less of a chance of developing a keloid scar.
I’m going to try and document my experience with this so other people facing this sort of procedure can know what to expect and maybe benefit from it. I’ve included a picture of myself below in all my pasty white and spotted glory so you can see what the surgeon will be removing from my face. It doesn’t look like it could kill me, eh? Dangerous little bugger.
Wish me luck! I’ll see you on the other side.
